Ramoth was the name given to a City of Refuge ( Joshua 21:38 ), on the East Bank of Jordan, where someone accused of a crime would get a fair hearing. In providing sanctuary for the accused, it avoided feuding between friends, families and tribes which often lasted for generations. |
This Church, at Hirwaun, South Wales has been a meeting place for Christians for over 150 years - the building itself is in its third incarnation. In 2018 we had a 150 years celebration evening with hymns written over the same period.
The earliest recording which might have been made at Ramoth, dates back to the South Wales Revival of 1904/5. The technology was no match for a modern standards but worth a listen. click on the link below for Rev E Roberts 1905 recording. An extract from the article states of Ramoth, "....there were twice as many in the majority of the seats as they were intended to hold; and although there was snow on the ground which was freezing hard, many respectable and delicate women stood on the window-ledges outside for three hours in order to watch the proceedings.....". Our heating systems have been upgraded since then. |
